Nelson is a Licensed Social Worker who enjoys the genuine connections that are made within a therapeutic relationship. In her practice, her goal is to provide a safe and empathetic space for you to feel comfortable “opening up,” and her focus is to support you as you work to make things in your life better. Nelson comes to Patchwork from the world of school social work, and brings with her experience supporting teens, young adults, and their parents, navigating life facing anxiety, depression, anger, grief/loss, ADHD, and trauma.
Nelson has a working knowledge of how people are affected and impacted by the systems within which they live and move, and works intimately with the school system on matters pertaining to 504, IEP, and otherwise coping soas to be attentive in the classroom. Nelson utilizes both brief, solutions-focused intervention with practical applications, as well as a humanistic, psychodynamic approach that supports longer-term self development.
Additionally, Nelson completed a fellowship in May 2023 with the University of Chicago, learning Contextually-Focused Dialectical Behavior Therapy (C-DBT) practices.
For teens and adults, I am a good fit and offer a safe and empathetic space for you to feel comfortable "opening up," and to support you as you make things in your life better. I enjoy listening and learning about each person's unique realities and perspectives. I am honored to be allowed to share in your thoughts, ideas, and issues. Together, we can sort through your life's stressors and then problem solve so you have some concrete take-aways while also engaging in grounding work and self-exploration.
I work closely with clients who experience anxiety, depression, anger, grief, and trauma. I hope to be a companion who can help you through your difficult times and celebrate in your best moments. I utilize different forms of therapy to fit your needs, including CBT, DBT, mindfulness, and psychodynamic talk therapy.
All of us who work in the helping professions wish we had the answers to solve your problems....we don't. However, if you are personally motivated to find a fix for the issues that get in your way, I am here to support your journey with an open mind, a helping heart, and some concrete skills to teach and help you to implement.
