Gregory Holich

LCPC

Adolescent, Adult, and Couples Therapist

I am always grounded in a client-centered and trauma informed approach toward therapy, while implementing a blend of DBT, CBT, ACT, mindfulness and strengths-based approaches.  I have experience working with eating disorders, substance use, trauma, anxiety, depression, life transitions, grief, and family therapy.  I incorporate empathy and compassion in sessions while attempting to understanding what is getting in the way of a meaningful life for you.  Additionally, I want to understand you, from your perspective and experiences.  I help clients eliminate maladaptive forms of managing life and emotions and get them to a place of empowerment, confidence, and control.  I also take a values-based approach to help clients align with what is most important to them and who they want to be as individuals.

“Change exists at the edge of vulnerability”

I want to create a safe and non-judgmental space to lean into those thoughts, emotions, and topics that are otherwise too uncomfortable to address.  As a therapist I will walk beside you, at your pace, and help you get closer to where you want to be in your life.  Your story and experience matters, and I am here to listen and work with you.  Sessions will include both talk therapy as well as behavioral and grounding techniques to gain more control over your thoughts, emotions, urges, and behaviors.  I also believe in the healing power of humor and play; both being incorporated in our time together.

If you knew me as a boy, it would be easy to label me as the “sensitive kid”.  Looking back as an adult, I would readily agree with that assessment!   Early in life, I didn’t know that I wanted to become a therapist, however I did know that I always “felt deeply”, had an extensive desire to figure out what makes the mind work, and my introverted nature always allowed me to become self-reflective and insightful.  Having a parent with a long-term illness from the time I was a young child, I learned early-on that life could and would throw challenges at you that are not always fair or expected.  My capacity for empathy towards others has only continued to grow and strengthen as I get older, based on my own experiences as well as the lessons I have been taught me through my own life’s journey.  I became a therapist to help other’s navigate their own lives, improve their well-being, and bring out their authentic selves.

I began my career in mental health in 2005, at which time I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from North Central College.  After spending five years working in a variety of settings, including case management at a psychiatric nursing home, long-term care housing for Mental Health Services in DuPage County, and residential treatment for at risk youth and wards of the state, I decided to pursue higher education, completing my Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology in 2014 from Benedictine University.  Since 2008, I have worked primarily in residential treatment for adolescents and adults struggling with eating disorders and other co-occurring issues.  At this time, I began developing a serious love affair with second and third wave behaviorism, including DBT, ACT, and mindfulness- based approaches toward therapy.  I have presented on the incorporation of DBT & ACT in the treatment of eating disorders and other mental health issues at various national conferences, including the National Alliance for Eating Disorders, West Coast Symposium on Addictive Disorders, MEDA Conference, and webinars through Addiction Hope and Good Therapy.  Since becoming a licensed counselor, I have enjoyed working in various roles as an individual therapist, family therapist, group therapist, as well as in clinical leadership providing guidance and support to newer clinicians.
